Athletes like Erling Haaland need the right fuel to reach their full potential. Performing at the highest level requires more than hard training - a balanced diet is also crucial.

Combining health and taste

Training on its own only takes you so far. Giving the body the proper nutrients is equally important. The right nutrients and food ensure that the body gets what it needs to perform.

Seafood from Norway ambassador Erling Haaland is clear on the importance of choosing food that helps his body perform at the best.

“Fish is good for athletes because it has a good composition of proteins, healthy fats, and vitamins and minerals that help keep the body healthy and fit and respond well to training,” Haaland says.

This is really what makes seafood stand apart from many other protein sources: the range of different nutrients you get in addition to the healthy proteins.

It’s these nutrients that are so essential for the body to achieve maximum performance, fast recovery and to avoid injuries. This is true for more than just star athletes like Haaland. Children especially need nutrient-rich food for growth and health.

“It is important for me that children and young people have a good diet and get enough fish as they grow, because it gives them energy and nutrients to perform well both in school and in sports. I have always believed in eating quality food to take care of my body,” Haaland states.

Norwegian seafood: A taste of Home

Erling Haaland grew up in Norway, where seafood was always a natural part of his diet. Today, it’s become more than home-cooked meals and everyday-food: it’s a conscious choice, choosing food that is both tasty and supplies what he needs to perform on the football field.

“What I love most about seafood is the flavour and that it is a fantastic protein source with well-balanced nutrition,” he says.

Whether he’s back in Norway or working abroad, Norwegian seafood is a way of remembering where he comes from.

“Seafood from Norway has a great taste. It always reminds me of home,” he says.

Seafood has been a part of my upbringing and my diet growing up. Norwegian seafood, the world’s best, still has a natural place in my life.

Why Norwegian seafood is healthy for you

Seafood on the dinner plate or as an easy lunch is healthy and nutritious food that offers several health benefits.

Variety is key, and seafood offers both versatility in meals, as well as an array of important vitamins and minerals. Fatty fish, like salmon and mackerel, are full of Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D. Salmon is rich in vitamin A, also known as retinol. Cod contains a lot of iodine, which is often difficult to get from other foods. Saithe is rich in protein, compared to many other types of fish.

The most important thing for a healthy diet is all about variety and balance, in addition to taste. After all, it's easier to find a healthy diet with food you love.

Seafood from Norway is world–class seafood

Our long history as a seafood nation stems back to the Viking era with fishing, catching and export of seafood. Norway is the world’s largest exporter of seafood, despite being a small country in the north with only 5.5 million people. Norway’s natural resources is the reason for our long-lasting traditions and practices within the seafood industry.

Today, we continue connecting past to present. We are caretakers of historical knowledge and care for our cold clear sea, which provide food and healthy proteins to the world’s population.

There’s a power in the Norwegian nature

Norway has one of the world’s longest coastlines. Our location far north offers cold, clear waters and optimal conditions for fish, shellfish and other seafood species. Seafood thrives in cold water filled with nutrients and is part of the secret behind our claim to have the world’s best seafood.
